Understanding what it means to be a Witch

Witches are a group of individuals who are closely attuned to nature, and who do not attack others unless provoked.  No, they did not attack each other because they did not like what they said.  They know that we are all related and connected to each other.  Mainly due to the internet, media and the movies there has been an influx of individuals interested in witchcraft (“Craft”).  We know, or should know that some of the information on the internet, media and movies is not true or even authentic and some have decided to go further with additional research on their own while others really do not care.  Unfortunately the latter will never learn what being a “real” witch is about and they will continue to live in their fantasy world.

Witchcraft is not for everyone and by this I mean it is not for the mean spirited individuals.  Those who walk around with a chip on their shoulder, angry all the time, hatred of Christianity.  Nor is it for those on a power trip or who wants to achieve greatness on the backs of those who work hard.  It is not a role playing game and it is not Hollywood. This is not what the Craft is about.  It loves, accepting, unobtrusive and very supportive of each other.  It is ethical, joy, happiness, peace and harmony.  It is balanced, between the universe and the individual, and respect for each other.

Yes, individuals in the “Craft” do call themselves Witches.  Look at the origin of the word witch.  It comes from the Anglo Saxon word wicce which is translated to wise one or sorceress.  The word Wicca is also derived from that same word so therefore it is easy to understand why some Wiccans identify themselves with Witch as well.  The witch focuses their energy toward a specific goal and therefore it is magick.  Nothing unusual as Christians does the same through prayer.  The witch is adept at energy work and like with Christianity, witchcraft brings different groups.  For example, Dianic, Gardnerian, Alexandrian, Hereditary, Traditional, Family Tradition, Georgian Traditional, Celtic, Fairy, etc.

The witch believes in the triad of the divinity but under a matriarchal approach as it is the Maiden, Mother and Crone and several worship the male counterpart the God while some follow the Godhead (God is both male and female).  The witch is very mindful that every word holds power and therefore they are mindful of everything that is spoken.  It is a known fact that the witch’s thought and words are similar to a pebble being tossed into a pond, each ripple pushing toward the other.  So the behavior, action, words of the witch affects the lives of others emotionally, mentally or physically.  The witch is careful of how we behave, act or speak because the witch knows it makes her balanced, a better person.
