Magickal Uses of Dragon's Blood

Many of us use dragon’s blood in our work.  We know it is a resin and comes from the plant Dracaceno Draco a/k/a Draconis Palm or Daemonorops palm.  It is a very dark blood red resin and it is associated with the element fire and the planet Mars.  It is normally purchased in resin form but it is also sold in powder and liquid form.  The Greeks and Romans used the resin to stop bleeding and in Europe, Asia and Mexico it was used as an astringent to wash wounds.  Italian violin makers used it as a varnish.  Historically, Dragon’s blood served as a dye that was used in varnishes, plaster and color dye for clothing and arts.  Dragon’s blood was also used for embalming.  Medicinally, the resin was used to treat gastrointestinal and respiratory problems.  In some cultures, the resin was used as a form of currency. Mystically, the resin was used in many pagan rituals to enhance protection, love, sexuality, evocation

Many practitioners use it as incense, burning it in the center of the home to eliminate negative energies or even the energies of the former occupants in the house as a way to begin fresh in a new home.  Did you know if you add a bit of camphor to it then you can place it in a sachet or sprinkle it carefully (it will leave red on objects) around your home and/or front door it drives away evil and negativity.  You can create a floor wash using dragon’s blood and mop your floors for increase purification and protection.  Make bath salts and take a bath for protection and cleansing either before or after doing spell work.

Upon heating, the resin resembles burning incense with a stronger woody and spicy floral scent that is said to be rich and smoky.  One must be careful purchasing it as oil because most likely it is synthetic incense as Dragon’s Blood oil does not naturally exist in this form.  If you desire to make Dragon’s Blood oil, grinding resin and steeping in organic oils will create deep red oil.  Much better to make your own then purchase it as oil.

If you would like to filter the noise level in your home you can make a mixture of sugar, salt and dragon’s blood resin and secure it tightly in a bottle and place it somewhere in your home so it won’t be found so you will have peace and quiet.

Protection is not the only thing it is used for as it is used for healing, banishing and love spells.  The resin can be crushed into a fine powder.  Place it in a bag and use a hammer crushing it.  It can be placed in oil to make dragons blood oil, powder placed on a candle for dragons blood candle, or make dragons blood ink and use it to write your rituals, draw seals and sigils or add in a candle and burned.
Witches Ink:

4 oz. Transparent Alcohol (vodka works well)
2 tsp. Dragons Blood (powdered resin)
 1 tsp. Pure Vanilla (tincture)
 1 tsp. Lavender (tincture)
 1 cinnamon stick
 2 cloves (optional)

Mix all together in a tightly sealed jar. Shake until mixed well. Place in dark cool cabinet. Bring out once a day and shake up to stir for seven days. Test the ink by placing your pen, needle or toothpick in the ink, then test on paper. If color is dark enough for you it's ready to use. If you would like it even darker then add more resin and repeat the shaking. Test every day until you have the desired color hue.
